Living in New Brunswick
An exceptional education extends beyond the classroom. It can come from strong human connections you forge when participating in activities with others or from the warm hospitality that goes into your accommodations. These considerations make New Brunswick the perfect environment for a well-rounded learning experience.
Hospitality, Heart, and Human Connection
While in New Brunswick, students stay with a host family who are eager to share their homes and accommodations. Our trained Homestay Coordinators carefully screen families to ensure that students are well-matched with their families.
Our homestay program is managed in-house by AEI, which provides students, parents, and agents with a single point of contact for all student-related questions (e.g., homestay, academic, and medical). Our unique setup allows us to respond to your questions quickly and efficiently.
Ongoing Support for an Unforgettable Experience
Each student in our program is assigned a Homestay Coordinator, who serves as their primary point of contact throughout their stay in New Brunswick. However, students also benefit from a comprehensive network of support that extends beyond the coordinator. The Homestay Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and vetting host families, conducting student orientations, and providing ongoing assistance to both students and host families. In addition, they organize activities designed to foster strong connections among peers and enhance students’ cultural experiences.
Beyond the Homestay Coordinator, Regional Managers oversee the coordinators and provide support related to academic progress, course selection, and general student well-being, while Homestay Administrators assist with overall program management. This collaborative team ensures that students receive the guidance and resources they need for a successful and enriching stay.

Connecting Students to Where They Need to Go
In New Brunswick, students typically travel to school on foot, or bus. For extracurricular activities, transportation is generally provided by host parents, who drive students to and from these events. Public transportation options, such as buses, are limited in many areas, so students and families should plan accordingly for trips outside of regular school hours. We ensure that each student’s transportation needs are met, taking into account their homestay location and the activities they wish to participate in, so they can make the most of their time in New Brunswick.

Finding Community and Connections in Activities
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in helping students connect with their peers and integrate into the community, all while enhancing their language skills in a natural, immersive environment. New Brunswick schools place a strong emphasis on encouraging students to participate in a wide variety of sports, clubs, and other activities, fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or through special interest groups, these activities provide invaluable opportunities for students to build friendships, improve their English, and feel like an integral part of the school community. With such diverse options available, New Brunswick offers many ways for students to explore new interests, engage with local culture, and create lasting connections.

Cultural Adventures
To provide students with a deeper understanding of Canada, AEI organizes three chaperoned cultural trips each school year. These trips are designed to immerse students in the diverse cultures, natural beauty, and history of Canada, and are organized with the help of a trusted tour company.
Trip 1: Toronto Adventure (Fall)
The first trip takes place over Thanksgiving weekend in October, giving students a chance to explore the heart of Ontario. Students will visit major destinations like Toronto and Niagara Falls, experiencing Canadian autumn at its finest. Highlights of the trip include visits to the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the stunning Niagara Falls. This trip allows students to connect with both the natural and urban beauty of Canada.
Trip 2: Quebec Adventure (March Break)
During March Break, students will experience the magic of a true Canadian winter in Quebec. Activities include downhill skiing, dog sledding, visiting a traditional maple sugar bush, and exploring the historic charm of Old Quebec City. This trip offers a deep dive into French-Canadian culture and the winter sports that define this region of the country.
Trip 3: Rocky Mountain Adventure (Spring)
In May, students will journey to the spectacular Rocky Mountains in Alberta, where they will explore the natural beauty of Banff and Jasper National Parks. Students will experience breathtaking mountain landscapes, outdoor activities like hiking or canoeing, and learn about the unique environment of Canada’s Rockies.
Trip Participation & Costs
These trips are optional and provide students with the opportunity to explore different regions of Canada. Each trip is an additional cost, separate from the regular program fees. AEI staff and trusted tour guides will accompany the students for safety and support throughout each adventure.
These cultural trips are a fantastic way for students to learn more about Canada’s diverse regions while creating lasting memories.
